ഐതിഹ്യം

ശ്രീ തണ്ണീർ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയിലെ താനൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന ആരാധനാലയമാണ്. താനൂർ റയിൽവെ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്നും ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കോട്ട് നടന്നാൽ കാട്ടിലങ്ങാടി യിൽ എത്തും. വെട്ടത്തുരാജാവിൻ്റെ അധികാര പരിധിയിൽപ്പെട്ട കാടുപിടിച്ചു കിടന്നിരുന്ന സ്ഥലം വെട്ടിത്തെളിച്ച് അങ്ങാടി ആക്കിയതിനാൽ കാട്ടിലങ്ങാടി എന്നു പേരുണ്ടായതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

കാട്ടിലങ്ങാടിയിൽ വടക്കെ തെരു, തെക്കെ തെരു എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ടു തെരുവുകളാണ് ഉള്ളത്. വടക്കെ തെരുവിൽ ഉത്ഭവകാലത്ത് 32 വീടുകളുണ്ടായിരുന്നതിനാൽ വടക്കെ തെരു 32 എന്ന പേരിലും തെക്കെ തെരു 12 വീട്ടുകാർ ചേർന്നു സ്ഥാപിച്ചതിനാൽ 12 എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുവാൻ ഇടയാ യി.

വടക്കെ തെരുവിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതിയും തെക്കെ തെരുവിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ശ്രീ തണ്ണീർ ഭഗവതിയുടേതുമാണ്.

ഏകദേശം 500-600 വർഷത്തെ പഴക്കമാണ് കാട്ടിലങ്ങാടി തെക്കെ തെരുവിനുള്ളതെന്നാണ് അനുമാനം. തെരുവിൻ്റെ ഉത്ഭവകാലത്തിനു മുമ്പ് കാട്ടിലങ്ങാടിയിൽ കിട്ടച്ചൻ എന്നു പേരായ ഒരു സിദ്ധൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കുലത്തൊഴിലായ നെയ്ത്തു സംബന്ധിച്ച് സമുദായാചാരത്തിനു വിരുദ്ധമായി പ്രവൃത്തിച്ചതുമൂലം തെരുക്കാർ കിട്ടച്ചനെ അപമാനിക്കുകയും അപമാനിതനായ കിട്ടച്ചൻ തെരു വിൽ നിന്നും രണ്ടു നാഴിക അകലെയുള്ള ചേന്നംകുളങ്ങര എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുള്ള തണ്ണീർ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പോയി തപസ്സ് ചെയ്ത് ഭഗവതിയെ പ്രത്യക്ഷയാക്കിയെന്നും. പ്രത്യക്ഷയായ ഭഗവതി തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കരുതെന്ന നിബന്ധനയിൽ കിട്ടച്ചനെ അനുഗമിച്ച് കൂടെ പോരുകയും എന്നാൽ കുറേ ദൂരം പോന്നപ്പോൾ ഭഗവതി കിട്ടച്ചനെ പരീക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനു വേണ്ടി മണിയൊച്ച കേൾപ്പിക്കാതിരിക്കുകയും മണിയൊച്ച കേൾക്കാതിരുന്ന കിട്ടച്ചൻ പിന്തിരിഞ്ഞ നോക്കുകയും ദേവി നിബന്ധന ലംഘിച്ച കിട്ടച്ചനെ ദേവി അനുഗമിക്കാതിരിക്കുകയും ദേവിയുടെ അസാന്നിദ്ധ്യം മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ കിട്ടച്ചൻ വീണ്ടും തപസ്സ് ചെയ്ത് ദേവിയെ പ്രത്യക്ഷയാക്കി സ്വന്തം ഗൃഹമായ വലിയവീട്ടിൽ സങ്കൽപ്പിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് ഇന്നു കാണുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാപിച്ച് ഗ്രാമ വാസികൾക്ക് അനുഗ്രഹം ലഭിക്കുന്നതിനു വേണ്ടി ദേവിയെ അങ്ങോട്ടു മാറ്റി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കുകയാണുണ്ടായതെന്നും വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു തെക്കുഭാഗത്തായി ഇന്നു കാണുന്ന അയ്യപ്പക്ഷേത്രം (പ്രഭാസത്യക സമേതനായ ശാസ്താവി) ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ കാട് വെട്ടി തെളിയിച്ചപ്പോൾ കണ്ടതാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ബ്രാഹ്മണകുടുംബത്താൽ പരിപാലിച്ചു വന്നിരുന്നതായിരുന്നെന്നും അവർ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുപോയി അന്യാധീനപ്പെട്ടക്ഷേത്രം പുനരുദ്ധരിപ്പിച്ചതാണെന്നും പുരാതനകാലത്തെ രേഖ കളിൽ കാണുന്നു. ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വടക്കുഭാഗത്തായും വലിയവീടിൻ്റെ തെക്കുഭാഗത്തായും ഇന്നു കാണുന്ന ദൈവത്തിൻ കാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം പുരാതനകാലത്ത് കാട് വെട്ടിതെളിയിച്ച് തെരുവ് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയപ്പോൾ വനദേ വതയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി ഒരു ആലയം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതാണ്. ഇവിടെ വനദേവത (ശൈവമൂർത്തി) സാന്നിധ്യമാണ്. പണ്ട് കാലത്ത് പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങായി ദൈവം പൂജ നടത്തി വന്നിരുന്നു. ദൈവം പൂജ നടത്തിട്ട് ഇപ്പോൾ ഏകദേശം 80 വർഷമായി.

കാട്ടിലങ്ങാടി ശ്രീതണ്ണീർ ഭഗവതിയുടെ ശക്തിയെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് പല ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളും കഥകളും അനുഭവങ്ങളും പഴമക്കാർ പറയുന്നു. മനസ്സറിഞ്ഞു വിളിച്ചാൽ വിളിപ്പുറത്തു ദേവി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുമെന്ന് തെരുക്കാരും ഗ്രാമവാസികളും വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ദേവിയുടെ ശക്തിയെകുറിച്ച് അനുഭവസ്ഥർക്ക് പലകഥകളും പറയുവാനുണ്ട്. തെരുവിൽ ദാരിദ്ര്യവും പട്ടിണിയും കൊടികുത്തിവാണിരുന്ന കാലത്ത് ഒരു വർഷം ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഏഴുദിവസം ഭഗവതിയാട്ട് ഉത്സവം കൊണ്ടാടുകയുണ്ടായി. എന്നിട്ടും അവസാന ദിവസം ഗുരുതിയോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് ദേവി ദാഹം തീർന്നില്ലെന്ന് കൽപിച്ചപ്പോൾ ദേവിയുമായി വളരെ സൗഹൃദ ബന്ധത്തിലായിരുന്ന കിട്ടച്ചൻ "ഇനിയും ദാഹം തീർന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ നാളുപറമ്പിലേക്ക് പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാൻ " പരിഹാസ രൂപേണ പറഞ്ഞു (നാളുപറമ്പ് അക്കാലത്ത് കള്ളു വിൽപന നടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലമായിരുന്നു. ഇത് കേട്ട് കോപിഷ്ഠയായ ദേവി "പതിനെട്ട് നാഴികയ്ക്കകം പരിഹസിച്ചതിനു ഫലം കാണും" എന്നു കൽപി ച്ചു. ദേവി കൽപിച്ച പ്രകാരം തന്നെ പതിനെട്ടുനാഴികയ്ക്കകം കിട്ടച്ചനെ കടുത്ത വസൂരി രോഗം പിടി പെടുകയും മരണപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു. വസൂരി രോഗം മൂലം മരണപ്പെട്ട കിട്ടച്ചന്റെ ഭൗതികദേഹം എവിടെ അടക്കം ചെയ്യണമെന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ തർക്കമുണ്ടായപ്പോൾ ദേവി കോമരം മുഖേന പ്രത്യക്ഷ പ്പെട്ടു. ദേവിക്ക് ദിവസവും കാണത്തക്ക രീതിയിൽ കിടക്കുന്നിടത്തു തന്നെ ഭൗതികദേഹം മറവു ചെയ്യുവാൻ കൽപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതുപ്രകാരം കിട്ടച്ചൻ്റെ ഭൗതികദേഹം ഭഗവതിയെ കിട്ടച്ചൻ ആദ്യം കൂടിയിരുത്തിയ സ്വന്തം വീടായ വലിയ വീട്ടിൽ, ദേവിക്ക് മുമ്പിൽ തന്നെ അടക്കം ചെയ്തതായും പഴമക്കാർ പറയുന്നു. ദേവിയുടെ കോപം ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങേണ്ടി വന്നെങ്കിലും ശാന്ത സ്വരൂപിണിയായ ദേവി കിട്ടച്ചനെ തനിക്ക് എപ്പോഴും കാണത്തക്കവിധം തൻ്റെ സമീപത്തു തന്നെ സംസ്കരിക്കാൻ കൽപനയുണ്ടായതിൽ നിന്നും കിട്ടച്ചന് ദേവി മോക്ഷം നൽകിയതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കിട്ടച്ചനെ അടക്കം ചെയ്ത സ്ഥലത്ത് ഇപ്പോഴും എല്ലാവർഷവും കർക്കിടകമാസത്തിലെ സംക്രമദിവസം കിട്ടച്ചന് "കൊടുതി' നടത്തി വരുന്നു. യഥാർത്ഥ ദേവീഭക്തൻമാർക്ക് സർവ്വശ്വര്യങ്ങളും നൽകുന്ന ദേവി തെരുക്കാരെയും ഗ്രാമ വാസികളായ ഭക്തൻമാരെയും ആപത്ഘട്ടങ്ങളിൽ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. തണ്ണീർ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പണ്ടുകാലം മുതലേ പെരുവണ്ണാന്മാരുടെ ഭഗവതി തോറ്റം പാട്ടോടു കൂടി കോലം കെട്ടിയാടലാണ് ഉത്സവത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങ്. എന്നാൽ കുറച്ചു വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് ഭഗവതിയാട്ട് നടത്തുന്നതിന് അവകാശികളായ പെരുവണ്ണാന്മാർ ഭഗവതിയ്ക്കു ഒരു ഭക്തൻ വഴി പാടായി നേർന്ന ഭഗവതിയാട്ട് കഴിക്കുന്നതിൽ അവർക്കുള്ള അസൗകര്യം കാരണം വിസമ്മതിക്കു കയും തൽഫലമായി ദേവികോപം മൂലം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അടുത്ത വർഷം മുതൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എന്നുമാത്രമല്ല. മറ്റൊരു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും കോലം കെട്ടി ആടാൻ സാധിക്കാത്ത വിധം അസുഖം പിടി പെടുകയും അങ്ങനെ കുറച്ചുകാലത്തിനുശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം മരണപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തത ഓർമ്മകൾ ഭക്ത ജനങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സിൽ ഇന്നും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

Welcome to ശ്രീ തണ്ണീർ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം's official online booking platform. By accessing or using our booking website, you agree to follow the rules, guidelines, and terms described below. We have written these terms in simple language to make them easy for every devotee to understand.

1. Vazhipadukal & Pooja Bookings

Devotees can book vazhipadukal (offerings) and poojas online for themselves and their families. To ensure everyone gets a fair opportunity to make offerings, please note the following:

  • Bookings can be made up to three (3) months in advance through the online system.
  • Please provide the correct Devotee Name (for Archana/Sankalpam prayers) and their Nakshathram (birth star) at the time of booking.
  • A booking is considered confirmed only after successful payment confirmation is received and a booking voucher email is generated.

2. Devotee Responsibilities

As a sacred place of worship, we request all devotees to maintain the sanctity and peace of the temple premises:

  • Devotees must strictly adhere to the traditional temple dress code (e.g., dhoti/mundu for men, saree/salwar/set-mundu for women) when visiting for direct participation or prasadam collection.
  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time if you are attending a booked pooja or ritual in person.
  • Keep the temple premises clean, refrain from using plastic, and follow the instructions of the temple priests (melshanthi) and staff.

3. Temple Authority Rights

The temple administration reserves the administrative rights to manage temple activities in accordance with customs and rituals:

  • The temple authority reserves the right to postpone, reschedule, or modify pooja and darshan timings without prior notice in case of eclipses, traditional festival requirements, or purification rituals (Thrikaala Pooja / Shuddhi).
  • The temple administration has the right to refuse admission or booking services to any individual behaving in a manner that disrupts the peace or violates temple customs.

4. Cancellation & Timing Changes

Due to the elaborate ritual preparations and purchasing of offering items (flowers, ghee, coconut, etc.) beforehand, bookings once confirmed cannot be cancelled or modified by the devotee directly. In case of unexpected changes in temple schedules, we will notify you and arrange for the pooja to be performed on the next suitable day.

5. Prevention of Misuse

This website is developed solely for the convenience of devotees. Commercial resale of booking receipts, scalping, or employing automated tools/bots to secure booking slots is strictly prohibited and will lead to immediate cancellation of bookings without refund and blocking of access.

  • Devotee Details: Name and Nakshathram (birth star) which are essential for sankalpam (prayers offered by the priests).
  • Contact Information: Phone number and email address to send your booking confirmations, receipts, and important updates.
  • Transaction Details: Payment reference numbers and transaction status to verify successful bookings.

2. Why We Collect This Data

We use the collected information only for spiritual and administrative purposes:

  • To chant your name and birth star during ritual offerings (vazhipadu sankalpam).
  • To send booking confirmation receipts directly to your email or mobile.
  • To resolve any booking issues, failed payments, or timing modifications.
  • To safeguard the website against spam, misuse, or unauthorized access.

3. Secure Payment Handling

Your financial safety is our top priority. We do not store or collect any credit card, debit card, UPI PINs, or bank account credentials on our temple servers. All payment transactions are processed securely through RBI-authorized third-party payment gateway services. These aggregators use advanced banking-grade encryption (SSL/TLS) to make sure your transactions are fully secure.

4. Protecting Devotee Information

We implement industry-standard security safeguards to protect your personal details from unauthorized access or alteration. Devotee details are stored in secure databases accessed only by authorized temple staff. We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information with anyone.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

We understand that sometimes plans change. However, because temple offerings involve buying holy items, flowers, and making specific spiritual preparations ahead of time, we must follow these guidelines regarding cancellations and refunds.

1. Voluntary Cancellations & Rescheduling

Once a devotee books a pooja or vazhipadu and pays for it, the booking is final:

  • We do not offer refunds or cancellations for bookings decided by the devotee.
  • If a devotee cannot visit the temple on the booked day, the pooja will still be performed in their name (sankalpam) by the priests. The devotee can collect the prasadam from the counter at a later date or contact temple administration.

2. Temple-Initiated Cancellations

On rare occasions, a pooja cannot be performed due to emergency ritual modifications, temple eclipses, or unexpected occurrences:

  • If the temple cancels a pooja, we will contact you to reschedule the vazhipadu to another date preferred by you.
  • If rescheduling is not possible or desired, a full refund of the booking amount will be issued to your original payment source.

3. Failed & Duplicate Payments

Sometimes money is deducted from your card/UPI account but the website doesn't issue a booking confirmation receipt due to bank network errors:

  • These are failed payments. The payment gateway service will automatically return the money to your bank account. This refund typically takes five (5) to seven (7) business days.
  • If you make a duplicate payment for the same booking by mistake, please contact our temple office with transaction details, and we will process a refund for the duplicate transaction.

4. Donations are Non-Refundable

Any voluntary contributions or donations (Kanikkai, festival contributions, or general temple construction donations) are offered as a devotional act and cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

5. Refund Timelines

All authorized refunds are processed back to the card, bank, or UPI account used for the original booking. The refund will show in your statement within seven (7) to ten (10) business days, depending on bank processing speeds.
